Main Street Bridge

On October 24th, the Main Street bridge opened. This was much more that just a bridge project. The roadway leading up to the bridge, on the city side, has a decorative cement rail on both sides of the road. The structure itself is very handsome, including eight old style lamps. MCNN reporters were given a tour of the structure the morning the bridge was open.

Art Center Expansion

After 30 years, the Custer County Art and Heritage Center -- Water Works Gallery -- continues to grow. This growth also carries out the theme of the entire facility, emphasizing the fact that the area was once a water plant. MCNN students present the first part in a two part series on the expansion. Part one focuses on the portion set to open this winter. The second part will focus on the old mechanical side of the water plant.

Bridge Is Open

In just a few days short of one year the Main Street bridge project was completed.  The barricades were unceremoniously removed early this morning and traffic began to roll.  By 7 a.m., the bridge was very busy.  Some drivers were just sightseeing, but most were probably appreciating that they no longer had to "take the long route".  MCNN students are working on a story to be posted soon.  In the meantime, here's some footage for our out of town friends.

Old Water Plant

We interviewed Mark Browning director of the Custer County Art and Heritage Center (Water Works Gallery) about the expansion project -- see above story. We are going to break the story into two parts: one on the project itself, and one soon to be posted about the history of the old pump house and future plans. Stay tuned. As for this clip, yes, there were no lights in this area and yes it was really creepy!

Sagebrush Motel Demolition

The old Sagebrush Motel is no more. The site at the corner of Leighton Blvd. and Valley Drive -- the old Strip -- has been demolished and the clean up of debris is nearly complete. This slide show also includes shots of the nearly complete Cornerstone Apartment -- the renovation project of the oldest sections of the former Holy Rosary Hospital complex. Photos take October 14th, 2007. A closer look at the stills are on our Flickr site.
